Setting Up Shop
May 30As anyone who even slightly knows me could tell you, I’m interested in myriad random topics. At the same time, my main site, Jounce, is pretty strictly centered on web-related topics — design, development, business, etc. So welcome to jackson.jounce.net, where I’ll be making shorter, more frequent posts on pretty much anything I find interesting.
Posterous
So that’s the need. The astute reader may notice that, rather than using my own site and platform, I’m using Posterous to run this site. Why? Well, I’ll be joining the team at Posterous any day now, and I figured I might as well find a good reason to use the platform I’ll be working on. Basically, Posterous is the simplest way to post stuff online, without sacrificing the power or the pretty. I’ll be leading their UX charge, making things nicer to use, and helping build it into a successful business. Great? Thanks, I thought so too.
What about LinkedIn?
Yeah, yeah, okay. Long story short, I’ve found that I’m best (happiest, most effective, etc) in a small, early-stage environment where the focus is on big problems and far-off goals. LinkedIn, though a great product and company, is far from being either small or early-stage — it’s just a very different set of problems and goals. So, despite the future success I’m quite sure LinkedIn will have, and the many people I met there for whom I have a deep respect, I’ve decided to focus on the type of work, company, and, perhaps most importantly, the type of team, that fits me best.
Anything Else?
Not really, though I have to say I’m looking forward to spending more time in SF and less time on a train. Be sure to subscribe if you’re into this whole thing. Or don’t, that’s cool too.
